New State, New Home, New Adventure!

What a year this has been for me! It's had a lot of ups and downs, but God truly has remained my constant through it all. Let me try to sum up.
Last year at this time, I had just been given a notice that, once again, United was trying to downsize and there was a chance that I would be furloughed if they did not receive enough volunteers. In January, I found out that I was going to be cut. Shortly after that, however, I was given the opportunity to join the Continental side of things instead of losing my job for an unknown amount of time. After MUCH deliberation and prayer, I decided to accept their offer, effective April 1st.
There were many changes when I did that, the hardest of which was that I was no longer able to fly as a German speaker. Months went by, and I struggled often with my attitude toward things. Finally, after visiting some friends and family during my vacation in October, I made the difficult decision to move to Houston, TX, after living in Virginia for almost 5 years. I put my transfer request in, assuming that I would have multiple months to prepare for the move. When the transfer was accepted, however, I had 4 days off (while still working in Virginia) to prepare, then show up in Houston on November 30th. I didn't have time to finish packing, find a place to live, or anything. But, I knew God was directing me, so I asked for a lot of prayer and help, and, LONG story short, am now settling into a new apartment in Spring, TX.
My parents came back from Germany to help settle the chaos, and without them, I think I would have keeled over. I also had a dear friend in VA whom I had helped moved to Brazil a couple years back, and she returned the favor for me this move.
SO, what does this mean? Lord willing, I will be able to speak German again, and use the skills I acquired while growing up there. It also means that I have a new mailing address, so feel free to send me a personal note to ask for it if you plan to send me a Christmas card to welcome me to my new place! ;) My phone number is still the same.
Oh, and could you pray for something else for me? I really enjoy having someone in my house while I'm away at work, so that everything is looked after. Could you pray that God would lead me to a roommate? My apartment is a 2 bdrm, 2 bthrm, and has plenty of room for such. I just need someone to share it with. Thanks for your friendship over the years! I wish you all a very blessed Christmas surrounded by those you love, and all the best in the New Year!  And, for those of you who have been asking, here's a couple shots from the apartment.  They're not great, but they're something!

First sit-down meal in the new place.
My boxes might not be all empty, but my house is decorated for Christmas!
(Thanks, Mom!)

My Nieces are so CUTE!!

Always a challenge to keep little M out of trouble. . .but this method worked pretty well!
CC got the giggles when she saw M in her tutu
We have to do something when big sister is at school, so we decided to invite her to a tea party.  G wrote this (copied from something I wrote for her).  We then snuck it in the mail box out front, and had C "check the mail" when she got home from school
Outfits were required. . . .

Catching Up....

I just got back early this morning from a charter trip, working for one of the companies that hire us to transport their people where they need to be. I had a long layover in Dallas, TX, as a result, and was able to see Carrie, a friend of mine who lived in the dorm with us when I was in 6th grade. I always love when I can catch up with people from my past on my layovers!
Speaking of catching up, a lot has happened in the last month, and I hope to get my blog caught up on some great photo opportunities, and fun times, as well as a little update on some changes in my future.  Stay tuned!  I'll update as I have time to do so.

A Week in Glasgow

This past week I had a chance to go "Home". . .well, at least to the place where I was born. ;) It's always a privilege to do this, and to meet up with different friends. It was a SUPER busy week! But I had a blast.
Lake days are ALWAYS a bonus, and greatly appreciated.

I'm glad Harvey has some toys he lets me enjoy, too!
Although the visit was short and sweet, I still appreciated seeing Lyle and Carla!
Eugene's. . .need I say more?
Another toy, this time shared with Kyla!
Hmm. . .not the best pic, but pretty fun!

We survived!

Victor's Crown

Yet another incredible song that I just heard. We sang it at our church tonight, and I couldn't wait to get home and learn it better. May the words speak life and freedom into your hearts!
And in case you need the lyrics, 'cause they're incredible:
"Victor's Crown"

You are always fighting for us
Heaven's angels all around
My delight is found in knowing
That You wear the Victor's crown
You're my help and my defender
You're my Saviour and my friend
By Your grace I live and breathe
To worship You

At the mention of Your greatness
In Your Name I will bow down
In Your presence fear is silent
For You wear the Victor's crown
Let Your glory fill this temple
Let Your power overflow
By Your grace I live and breathe
To worship You

Hallelujah
You have overcome
You have overcome
Hallelujah
Jesus You have overcome the world

You are ever interceding
As the lost become the found
You can never be defeated
For You wear the Victor's crown
You are Jesus the Messiah
You're the Hope of all the world
By Your grace I live and breathe
To worship You

Hallelujah
You have overcome
You have overcome
Hallelujah
Jesus You have overcome the world

Every high thing must come down
Every stronghold shall be broken
You wear the Victor's crown
You overcome
You overcome

At the cross the work was finished
You were buried in the ground
But the grave could not contain You
For You wear the Victor's crown

Hallelujah
You have overcome
You have overcome
Hallelujah
Jesus You have overcome the world

Every high thing must come down
Every stronghold shall be broken
You wear the Victor's crown
You overcome
You overcome

A Promising Sky

I had a longish layover in Denver the other day and caught this incredible double rainbow (look close) over all the United airplanes.  To me, it was just another remind that God TRULY is in control of this whole work situation, even if it seems like it's chaotic.  The final picture always reminds me of the day Jesus is coming back to call His people to Himself.  Make me ready.

A Visit to Texas

I finally got a chance to head to Texas to visit friends just for fun! I loved it!
James and Katie, new friends I met through mutual friends.  James is the pastor at this church.  I thought it was very picturesque.
I went to a place called "Elijah's Retreat" and met a little goat that had just been born the Sunday before I got there.  She didn't have a name yet, so I had the privilege of naming her:  Oreo.

This is the place that Coach and Marilyn chose to give in response to Coach's memorial.  It was fun to finally see the place I had heard so much about.
Unbeknownst to me, it was also a BIRTHDAY day for Valerie, Sarah, and Mike's mom.  We went to eat at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant--MEXICAN!!  YUM!!
We had some good laughs, especially speaking Spanish, German AND English during the meal.
At the end of it, Heather pointed out that I truly was in Texas.  I looked up and saw this.  Yup.
I also went to a Friday Night Football Game in Rusk (for a little bit, but forgot my camera) and experienced what  a small town in Texas does to fill up their evenings.  Wow.  Talk about a separate culture just their own.  I thought I was in the middle of a movie!!

ZOO DAY!!!!!

Today, for the first time EVER since I moved to DC, I went to the Zoo! I can't believe it's taken me this long, especially since there is NO entrance fee!!!
These monkeys had the most incredible color of fur.
And cute faces, too!
This little gorilla desperately wanted to take a nap, but was having trouble finding a comfortable way to sleep!
God is so incredibly creative with the colors of all His creatures. . .some of which you don't even see because they hide in the jungle!
There truly is a frog in this pic. . . .
These turtles were HUGE!

The big cats. . .I think I'll request one as a companion when I get to heaven.

Not sure how this animal fit in but proof that we were there together!

Madagascar, anyone???

Enter into the world of the AMAZON!  Did you know there's sting rays that live in that river?
My "Brazilian" friend in the Amazon

I was especially excited to visit the Panda Exhibit, and today happened to be the baby, Bao Bao's, 1 year birthday.   (She had a private birthday party for members only earlier in the morning, so we couldn't visit her exhibit at first).
You can see the corner of her "cake" in this picture of her momma

Once again, amazed at the colors of creation!

And, finally, my favorite pose of the day, which also happened to be my last pic.  Then it started raining rather significantly on our way home, but only in spurts while we were there.  I was thankful!
