So, my dear husband planned a date today. . .
. . .because the advertisement showed these great cars. . .
What I didn't know until I got there was that they were all hearses--for funerals. An entire museum full of them. Once I got over the shock of this NOT being a romantic date, it actually was quite intriguing. They had an entire area that was specifically displaying things from the funerals of President Bush (I), Barbara Bush, Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, etc.
Pres. Ronald Regan and Pres. Ford were carried in this hearse.
And very intricate hearses, both motorized. . .
. . .and horse-drawn
Want to remember your loved one? Put their cremated ashes in art form. This was creepiest, I think.
Or, you can specially design a coffin. . .like they do in Ghana. . .
There's the undertaker and hardware just in case there's not enough business at one or the other.
This was a bus. . .coffins at one end. . .
. . .family and pallbearers at the other end. This model didn't do to well because when it was on a steep hill, it ended up tipping over backwards, throwing the people inside all over each other, and the coffin fell out of the front. Not good for business. It retired to become a living quarters for a cowboy on a ranch, and then another funeral director found it and had it restored. It never was used again, just a piece of history.
And, the man of the hour. And his "cool cars".
. . .and his reluctant side-kick
All-in-all, probably one of the dates I'll remember for years to come.
