Germany Spring 2026--Freiburg

Although this trip was supposed to be with my dear hubby, it ended up with some changes at the last minute, and my friend, Gina, who has always said she was ready for adventure, proved her statement and went with me instead.
We landed in ZRH to a view of the beautiful alps
This was Gina's first time in Switzerland and her ancestors are from there, so, of course, she had to splurge on some swiss chocolate!

Springtime in Germany and beautiful flowers being sold for cheap at the grocery store.

This was one of the coolest things I saw all trip--it's an automatic egg dispenser!!  The chickens live in the trailer, and you get FRESH eggs!

Our first breakfast
Then we headed into Freiburg, where this iconic tower brought back a lot of memories. . .or rather the McDonald's right underneath it.

Gina was brave enough to climb the church tower. . .I was not.
There was a market set up under the church, just like a Christmas market atmosphere.

I had to take a picture of this bratwurst cart. . .they were the Meier's after all!!

A beautiful day in a beautiful place with a lot of memories

Code Word: Staufen

When 2 people celebrate 53 years of marriage and then ask you to join them on their adventures for the day, you go for it!  We ended up in a beautiful village called Staufen.
(for my hubby)

The main attraction:  cafe Dekker!
Think of a beautiful bakery and cafe on steroids, and you MIGHT be able to imagine how many choices this place offers.
Love at first sight!

We then went upstairs to the terrace, and saw these beautiful pansies on the edge of the stream.
Having just received all our delights
Gina had the most fun ordering a specialty coffee and 5 chocolates.
The anniversary couple also delighted in their food

The wisteria bushes were everywhere and gorgeous!

53 years and still holding hands. . . .
We then attempted to drive up to the castle.  Let's just say the car didn't make it.

But Gina did!
Dad found a feather and promptly stuck it in his hat.
And what's an anniversary without Ice cream from their favorite Eis Cafe?
Of course, it was best when shared.
The day ended with very full stomachs and sauerbraten.
